MUSIC Monteverdi Vespers Gwen Toth, Artek
Since 1972 we are proud to sponsor our Summer and Messiah Sings
to provide a musical treat for New Yorkers. Under the batons
of leading conductors, with music scores provided, choral music
enthusiasts can participate in the singing of great choral masterpieces
in the historic and intimate Church of St. Luke in the Fields. This
year's Messiah Sing will be directed by the West Village Chorale's
conductor Michael Conley.
These Sings have been noted for their friendly, informal atmosphere
and high quality of musical performance. Our rehearsal format gives
participants, amateur and experienced singer alike, a closer look
at these monumental choral works. Solos are sometimes sung by guest
artists, audience members or entire sections. Participants
have an opportunity to meet the conductor at the intermission and
to discuss the evening's work. Light refreshments are served
at this time.
Caroling
Walk
Join us each December when we continue a tradition with the Chorale
and the neighborhood since 1974! Our Caroling Walk is free to the
public. Carolers meet in the school cafeteria off the rear courtyard
of the Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, located at 487 Hudson
Street, one block south of Christopher Street in the West Village.
We stroll from the Church through the Dickens-like historic neighborhood
singing carols and seasonal songs led by members of the Chorale.
Stroll back to the Saint Luke's School cafeteria for refreshments
afterward.
